3 Ways to Eat Vegan in Downtown Fresno

Whether your somebody who is full-on vegan, part-time vegetarian, (yes that's a thing) or just simply wants to have a meatless meal for lunch this list will make your options a lot easier to choose from. For me, choosing a spot to eat in Downtown can be rough, especially in the summertime. Usually when the weather is hot like this I typically don’t eat a real heavy meal for lunch. I want something light, healthy, and still leaves me satisfied.

Here are some of my favorite spots to go to in Downtown when I’m craving just that.

1. Raw Fresno
I picked this spot first since its super close to my work. I absolutely LOVE RF. They are a gourmet raw/vegan restaurant located in The Galleria at the Civic Center Square on Kern (across from the Starbucks.)  Chef Naomi and the staff are incredibly sweet. I usually get their Farmers Market Wrap – it’s a super flavorful collard wrap made with house fermented sauerkraut, hummus, and ranch made out of cashews. On Tuesdays I get their 2 for $8 taco special. These are made out of a casaba flour tortilla, filled with nut cheese, avocado, pico de gallo, and Peruvian beans. Two of these babies fill me up FAST.

2. Rappit Up at The Market on Kern
I first found Rappit Up on social media. I love that they are posted at the Market on Kern EVERY Wednesday. For those of you who don't know the Market on Kern is a farmers market that takes place on Kern Street, every Wednesday from May till October. You can find the street filled with local farmers and artists that showcase everything from food, crafts, snacks, and live music.

Here I had the Vegan Breakfast burrito - which was filled with pinto beans, organic tofu, roasted bell pepper and onions, and avocado. This thing is FULL of flavor. I love making the quick stop at the market to pick up Rappit Up products. It's super convenient when I don't have time to bring my lunch from home.  Some of my other favorites are the Asian Tofu Sandwich and the Carrot Cake Muffins for dessert - you have to try them yourself!

3. La Jacka Mobile
La Jacka is another one of my favorites. Since I recently started cutting red meat out of my diet again I have not been eating any kind of tacos (I know.) La Jacka is a vegan/vegetarian mexican street food truck - with all of their vegan options made of JACKFRUIT! I never knew about jackfruit until I discovered LJ and it completely changed the game for me. The first time I tried their carne asada tacos I wasn't too crazy about them, they had a tart taste to them which I didn't like. BUT I do recommend their carnitas. I'm not sure if they season it a different way but the carnitas are full of flavor and doesn't have that tart taste at all. Also try the carnitas in the nachos. SO GOOD.
You can find these guys everywhere in town. For lunch they have a 3 for $5 taco special and are typically at Fresno City College or the Mural District Park in Downtown. They always have their schedule posted on their social media which is super convenient. AND their staff is incredibly sweet, I love these guys and am so happy they are in our vegan community.
